CHANDIGARH: With the Syndicate and the Senate giving its approval, Panjab University has decided to implement, in toto, the reservation Policy of the Govt. of India as prescribed by the UGC in its new guidelines for the appointment of faculty.
Vice Chancellor of Punjab University Prof. R.C.Sobti said Thursday that the rules of reservation would be applicable to all teaching posts such as lecturers, readers, professors etc. with 15% reservation for SC and 7.5% for ST both at the time of direct recruitment and at the time of internal promotion. A similar percentage would be exercised while allotting on-campus accommodation.
The percentage of reservation would be applied separately for each recruitment year. All the SC/ST candidates selected according to their position in the combined general merit list would not be counted for covering the prescribed percentage of reservation. SC/ST candidates
would be interviewed separately and one member of the Selection Committee would belong to the SC/ST category.
In adherence to the guidelines of the UGC, the Vice Chancellor has constituted a Standing Committee to oversee the effective implementation of the Reservation Policy and to suggest follow-up measures for achieving the objectives and targets laid down in respect of these reserved categories. On the recommendations of the Committee, a department-wise roster for appointments has already been prepared.
Panjab University also has a specific cell that deals only with the queries/grievances of the reserved categories. The cell is under the under the charge of an Assistant Registrar (Special Cell SC/ST).
According to Prof. Sobti, “Panjab University has always been in the forefront when it comes to commitment to our constitutional responsibilities. We strongly believe that access to opportunities should be made as inclusive as possible so that there is collective
growth and holistic development.”
